The Rotary Club of Sebastopol Sunrise Announces Student of the Month Recipients
Each month, the Rotary Club of Sebastopol Sunrise recognizes a Laguna High School student who demonstrates scholastic achievement, excellent citizenship and attendance.
Elizabeth Guzman is a senior at Laguna High School and was the Student of the Month for September 2011. Elizabeth plans to continue her education at the Santa Rosa Junior College next year, pursuing studies in forensic anthropologist or in healthcare to become a midwife. "I like the idea of being a midwife because I love helping people, especially children" according to Elizabeth. Pictured above left is Rotarian Wayne Britton, Elizabeth and Elizabeth's father Felipe Guzman. Niki Schneider was the Laguna High School Student of the Month for November 2011. She is a sophomore and the youngest of six children. Niki is still deciding what she wants to do after High School, but she hopes to end up near a beach like Venice Beach. Tanner Irizary is the December 2011 Student of the Month. Tanner recently transferred to El Molino High School. After High School, Tanner plans to become a Dental Hygienist. Pictured above right are Rotary President Jerry Meshulam, Rotarian Wayne Britton, Tanner and Niki. Britton presented each of the recipients with a plaque and $50 for their achievement. Laguna High School was named a Model Continuation High School by the California Department of Education in 2011. California Model Continuation High Schools successfully support educational continuity for students whose lives have been challenged. Model Continuation High Schools have proven records of helping young people earn their high school diploma and prepare to achieve their goals after high school.
