Tess Ostopowicz
The Sunrise Rotary Club of Sebastopol has named the Rotarian of Year, Tess Ostopowicz. This honor is awarded for service above self and Tess is a role model in our community. Upon receiving the award, Tess expressed "Serving our community and especially those in need is very important to me. I feel very honored to receive this award, representing the many Rotarians who serve our community every day".
Tess is a generous supporter of local non-profit organizations and community service endeavors, including the Humane Society, the Interfaith Food Bank, Holiday Giving Programs, Blood Drives, the Sebastopol Senior Center, and Food for Thought. In 2010, she led Rotary's Holiday Dinner serving over 350 dinners and providing warm clothing and toys to families in need. She hosts many Rotary events and celebrations including the annual New Year's Day walk to raise money and awareness toward the eradication of Polio. Tess was born and raised in New Orleans. She grew up eating seafood on Friday nights with her Family at local restaurants. This inspired her to have a career in the restaurant business. In 2001, Tess and her husband Gene opened GTO's Seafood House known for delicious "New Orleans Creole-inspired" cuisine served in a warm and fun atmosphere. GTO's is located at 234 South Main Street in downtown Sebastopol. Rotary is an organization of business, professional and community leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs.
